As the clock ticked at exactly 12:00 midnight, Dubai joined an exclusive club of world cities whose landmarks are iconic in bringing in the New Year. Sydney Harbour Bridge in Autralia, The London Eye, Times Square in New York and now The Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
the 828-metre spire brashly and brightly announced its advent as the place to be in the Middle East for bringing in the New Year and banishing the old. Huge crowd estimated to 500,000 spectators celebrated as the world's tallest standing structure turned into a virtual column of sparkling and dazzling fireworks display.
Although many of them had battled long traffic queues to reach to the nearest point possible, while others who were unlucky enough pulled their cars over wherever they were stuck and created a picnic-like atmosphere while making sure to catch the view of the fireworks, even from far away.
The celebration was a huge success, they say that it will take a long time for Dubai spire and spirits to be topped.
